Our Story

Amber Willow was founded in 2019 by a group of families who recognized the need for a different kind of residential care in Northern Thailand. Having experienced firsthand the challenge of finding comfortable, dignified living arrangements for aging parents and relatives, they envisioned a place that would honor the wisdom and individuality of each resident while providing the support needed in later years.

The name "Amber Willow" reflects two guiding principles. Amber represents the warm, golden quality of light we cherish here, reminiscent of lantern-lit evenings and the gentle glow of northern Thai sunsets. Willow speaks to flexibility and grace, qualities we value in our approach to care. Just as the willow bends without breaking, we adapt to each person's needs while maintaining our commitment to respect and dignity.

We chose Hang Dong for its peaceful setting among the foothills, where mature trees and tropical gardens create a naturally calming environment. The location offers proximity to Chiang Mai's cultural richness while maintaining the quiet serenity our residents appreciate. The land itself has been thoughtfully developed to preserve existing greenery and create spaces for both solitude and connection.

Our approach draws from Northern Thai cultural values of community, respect for elders, and unhurried living. We've designed our residence and programs to reflect these principles, creating a home rather than an institution. Every detail, from the wide verandas to the communal dining arrangement, has been considered with the comfort and autonomy of residents in mind.

Today, Amber Willow serves as home to a small, carefully maintained community of residents from Thailand and abroad. We remain committed to the vision that inspired our founding: creating a place where people can live with dignity, comfort, and genuine companionship in their later years.

Our Standards of Care

Dignity & Respect

Every resident is treated with the respect and consideration they deserve. We honor individual preferences, maintain privacy, and support personal autonomy in all aspects of daily life.

Safety & Security

Our facility maintains secure entry systems, well-lit pathways, and staff presence around the clock. Safety rails, non-slip surfaces, and emergency response protocols ensure peace of mind.

Staff Training

All team members receive ongoing training in elder care, cultural sensitivity, and communication. We maintain low staff-to-resident ratios to ensure attentive, personalized support.

Nutritional Quality

Meals are prepared fresh daily using quality ingredients from local markets. We accommodate special diets, cultural preferences, and individual tastes with care and attention to nutritional balance.

Health Monitoring

While we are not a medical facility, we maintain regular communication with residents' healthcare providers and families. We assist with medication reminders and coordinate medical appointments as needed.

Privacy Protection

Personal information is handled with strict confidentiality. We comply with Thai data protection regulations and respect each resident's right to privacy in their living space and personal matters.

Our Values in Practice

At Amber Willow, we approach residential care as an opportunity to enhance quality of life rather than simply provide services. Our philosophy centers on recognizing that each person brings a lifetime of experiences, preferences, and relationships that deserve to be honored and supported.

We believe in the importance of natural surroundings for wellbeing. Our gardens are not merely decorative; they provide spaces for morning walks, quiet reading, light gardening activities, and connection with the changing seasons. The presence of mature trees, flowering plants, and vegetable beds creates a living environment that engages the senses and offers daily pleasures.

Cultural connection shapes much of what we do. Northern Thailand's rich traditions of craftsmanship, cuisine, and spiritual practice inform our activities and daily routines. We integrate these elements naturally into community life, whether through shared meals featuring local dishes, visits to nearby temples, or demonstrations of traditional arts.

We understand that moving into residential care represents a significant transition. Our approach emphasizes gradual adjustment, with flexibility to accommodate individual paces and preferences. Some residents embrace community activities immediately; others prefer quiet observation before participating. Both approaches are welcomed and supported.

Family involvement is encouraged at every level. We view ourselves as partners with families in supporting their loved ones, maintaining open communication and welcoming participation in care decisions. Regular updates, visiting flexibility, and inclusion in activities help families stay connected and engaged.
